If you’re anything like me, ticking things off a to do list is one of the most satisfying parts of the day. But am I doing the right things, the things that will be most effective in getting me the meaningful results I want, the ones that will truly help me flourish? A lot of […]

It has been an aspiration of mine for some time now to take August off work. The idea first floated onto my radar many years ago when two independent consultants I regularly worked with told me proudly that they didn’t work in August or December. This struck me as entirely laudable: luxurious, yes, but also […]

Which apps would make your life easier and your work more productive? For someone very interested in productivity hacks and committed to the ‘iPhone and coffee shop’ lifestyle, I don’t feel I am making the best use of the huge number of apps out there designed to help ‘do things better’. I’d love to have […]

My first post of the year typically concentrates on focus, objectives and productivity. These topics are still close to my heart, perhaps even more so this year. Contemplating what we want to do gives us clarity of purpose. Reflecting on what we’ve done helps us learn from experience. Yet ultimately, making the changes that will help us do better, be […]

One of my prevailing interests is in productivity and how to boost it. The ‘new start’ that January offers often sees a peak in my fascination with this topic. Since this is time of year heralds a general concern with resolutions, goals, commitments to ‘do things differently’ and ‘get more done’, I know I’m not […]

Time for a holiday: relax, recharge, renew

In today’s 24-7, ‘always on’ culture, it can sometimes seem as though everywhere you look there are tips on how to get more done, work smarter, be more successful. And as my commitment to my lists, my power hours and to goal-setting demonstrate, I am as big a productivity junkie as anyone! Yet as my […]

My favourite ‘third space’: The London Library

It’s been quite a challenge to articulate what it is I like so much about working in The London Library. When I worked in an office, I often delighted in the ease of turning to a colleague for an ad hoc thrashing through of a task one of us was engaged in. And I love […]

The Productivity Paradox: How slowing down can speed things up

  • Posted by Liz Gooster

There is a French phrase, bobine arrière pour bondir, which I heard a while ago and which has stuck with me. It means ‘coil back in order to spring forward’ and it effortlessly captures some concepts I’ve been reflecting on and playing with for a while, in relation to my own productivity, performance and wellbeing.
