Achieving Peak Performance

My Alliance colleague Juan Coto has been working closely with tennis player Johanna Konta for over a year. As Johanna soars from one achievement to the next – as I write she has just played Angelique Kerber in the semi-finals of the Australian Open, the first female British player to get that far in over three […]

Elected to the position of Senior Partner in 2014 following a hotly contested election process, Richard Foley has ultimate responsibility for the leadership of City law firm Pinsent Masons for at least a four year term. It is a mantle Foley seems to have taken on gladly, and he is ‘loving it’ so far. His […]

Softly spoken, with a delightful Scots accent, and effortlessly modest, Mairi Bannon’s understated manner belies the extent of her business achievements and her personal impact. She was part of the start-up phase of specialist recruitment company Strategic Dimensions (SD) 20 years ago, becoming joint leader with Mike Haffenden just four months after he’d got it […]

Recently my Alliance colleague Linda and I did a Coaching Day with one of our regular clients. The day started with warm greetings – smiles, friendly hugs, familiar faces. As usual, it proved to be an intense, tiring, challenging and deeply satisfying day. The format of the day is that six people from the client […]

Bags of Potential at Barnardo’s

The most vivid memory I will carry with me from our Alliance day at Barnardo’s* is the look of mingled surprise and delight on one of the winners’ faces when first place in ‘The Apprentice’-style competition was announced. Ruth, Juan and I had spent the day with six young people and in our view, all […]

Just a Walk in the (Yorkshire Dales National) Park

The last energy drink has been drunk, the last Snickers bar has been eaten – and in the event we didn’t need as many of either as we thought we might. We did it! The Alliance Yompers yomped home after a blistering 108km (the 100km turned out to be a neat marketing number) in 28 […]

Oxfam Trailtrekkers – the Big Walk is almost upon us!

After months of planning, preparation and training, the big day is almost upon us. According to the Oxfam Trailtrekkers guide, this last week should be about ‘tapering’, resting and ‘carbing up’. With weekends of stomping out 20-30km practice walks behind me, I’m personally looking forward to a few days of guilt-free plates of pasta and […]

The Oxfam Trailtrekkers event, a formidable 100km walk in the Yorkshire Dales, is almost upon us. Our Alliance Yompers team, both walkers and support crew, is gearing up for the big day. Linda F, the initiator of this huge adventure, Daniel, David and myself have been out pounding various pavements, country roads, hills and canal […]

A Precious Experience

Inspiring. Uplifting. Humbling. Just a few words that spring to mind as I think about the 2012 Precious Awards, held at London’s Waldorf Hotel on November 24. And as inspiring woman after woman (with one man sprinkled into the mix) took to the stage to claim their awards, most eyes in the room prickled with […]
